Windows 7, need help improving performance?

ok, i upgraded from windows 7 on my dell laptop. its super old

cpu: intel pentium 4 3.2 ghz with hyperthreading on

ram: 1gb sdram

video: ati mobility radeon 9600/9700 with 64mb video ram

i was thinking seeing as my video card and cpu are mobile ones and cant be replaced with better ones. should i upgrade my ram to DDR PC3200, DDR (non-ECC) i can get a total of 2gb ram. would that give me a little more speed. everything runs ok. but opening programs and stuff is slow (not extremely but enough to make me want better performance.) so would upgrading ram improve-

opening programs

searching for files

opening folders (like the loading of thumbnails, would that be faster)

opening and switching between tabs in google chrome.

so would it help?|||Doubling the ram to 1.5/2gb is the best you can do. I dont think your HDD is sata type so putting in an SSD would not work.
