Upgrading my video gaming experience for windows 7?

I really can't wait to play The Elder scrolls 5 Skyrim on my Windows 7 64-bit computer but I doubt it would be able to take it since it has a really horrible video gaming experience. Is it possible to upgrade the video or graphics card to help it? (I really don't know much about computers so try to keep the answer understandable for dumbies like me please)|||What is your Computer Specifications?
